Chief Cook and Bottle Washer: Lizzy Tilley

I have always been an artist, but strangely, thought I should be doing other things. I took art classes in High School while working on flirtation studies. Then I studied English Literature at BU, landing a job as an editor and proofreader for an academic publisher. I ended up in management and unhappy. So I quit to develop my culinary, decorating, and mothering skills while freelance editing and mural painting in my free time. To get out of the house, I started working at the local public television and radio station. Before I knew it, I was managing the televised and online auctions, a full staff, and hundreds of volunteers. This became a 70 hour a week diversion that swallowed me whole for several years. The best part was getting to know wonderful artists in a 21 county area, including Ithaca. Just as I was burning out, I was offered a job by a smart, wonderful businesswoman with her own shop, Sea Hag Soaps, where she made soap, and I cleaned up, and we represented the art of hundreds of local artists and craftspeople in a beautiful old timberframe barn by a small lake, while also tending an organic garden and a free range chicken flock. It was  heavenly, but Ithaca beckoned. So I picked up roots and decided I could make a go of it myself, having learned to love the concept in practice. I was led to the little art garage that I now make my artistic and spiritual center, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic.
